Neuromuscular TMJ Diagnosis and Treatment

Find pain relief for one of the most complicated joints in the human body.

Temporomandibular Joint and Muscle Disorders refers to a complex and poorly understood set of conditions that can cause pain in the area of the jaw joint and associated muscles and/or problems using the jaw. Both or just one of the TM joints may be affected. TMJ dysfunction can affect a person's ability to speak, eat, chew, swallow, make facial expressions, and even breathe. Many patients complain of headaches, neck and shoulder pain.

Dr. Meyer’s background in physical therapy, along with his extensive training in Neuromuscular Dentistry, has allowed him to diagnose and treat patients. Using the most advanced computer analysis, Dr. Meyer helps patients reduce the symptoms commonly associated with TMJ dysfunction.

Dr. Meyer offers a variety of therapies to correct the alignment problems and address muscle pain including:

  • Gradually correcting the way the jaw aligns through the use of a special mouthpiece or retainer.
  • Collaborate with an oral surgeon, physical therapist or orthodontist to get a patient functioning comfortably again.
